A lifeless body was found floating in a lake in Hialeah this Saturday morning, sparking a wave of speculation among local residents.

The scene, witnessed by several neighbors, matched a story that had already been circulating in the neighborhood for days: that of a man who, during a police chase, had reportedly jumped into the water and never resurfaced.

Although the authorities have yet to confirm their identity or the causes of death, the discovery raises questions about what happened. According to information confirmed by the Hialeah Police Department, officers responded to an emergency call in the area of 775 West 60th Street, where the lifeless body of a person was found floating in the lake. The images captured by Telemundo 51 showed the city firefighters entering the water, securing the body, and bringing it to the shore, where it was covered with a yellow tarp.

A man fleeing from the police?

Although the police have not provided details about the identity of the deceased or the exact circumstances of the death, the neighbors hold a theory that is gaining traction among the rumors in the neighborhood.

According to testimonies gathered by the local channel, it could be the same individual who, days earlier, was involved in a police chase in the area.

"On Wednesday night, we saw the police running between the houses,” reported one of the residents, who claimed to have witnessed part of the operation.

In the midst of the escape, the suspect reportedly jumped over a fence and plunged into the lake in a desperate attempt to evade the authorities.

"None of the neighbors saw him come out of the water," the source added.

Since then, some residents have continued to gaze at the lake, hoping for some sign.

The discovery of the body days later has reinforced the belief that it is the same man.

However, the police have not confirmed this account and simply state that it is an ongoing investigation.

A deceptively lethal lake

The lake where the discovery occurred, informally known as the "Lake Tahoe of Hialeah," is actually an old stone quarry turned into a water reservoir.

Its serene beauty conceals a dangerous depth of up to 32 feet —almost 10 meters— of cold, murky water.

Unlike natural lakes with gradual slopes, the banks of this excavation drop steeply, making an attempt to cross it a deadly risk, even for experienced swimmers.

“It’s a very treacherous place. It seems calm, but you sink right away,” explained another neighbor who requested to remain anonymous.

In this environment, a leap into the water while fleeing and under stress could have had fatal consequences, especially if the individual did not know how to swim well or panicked.
