The acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, warned this Wednesday about the dangers of political extremism and announced that in the coming hours her government will unveil new measures aimed at promoting coexistence and tolerance in the country.
"In the coming hours, we will be making announcements in that direction, regarding how to approach politics, how to manage coexistence, and how we will face diversity and differences in opinion with tolerance, without hatred, and without violence. Respect and the right to tolerance, which is a human right, must prevail," Rodríguez stated.
The Venezuelan leader defended the legislation promoted during her administration against hate crimes and discrimination, stating that its aim is to “prevent extremism from leading the country back to episodes of violence.”
"You see that extremism only leads to death, destruction, violence, and suffering. There is nothing positive in extremism or fascism," he emphasized.
Also on Wednesday, Rodríguez emphasized that her government is maintaining a dialogue process with the United States, which began weeks after the American military attack that resulted in the capture of former president Nicolás Maduro, reported EFE.
"We are in a process of dialogue and collaboration with the United States, without any fear of addressing the differences and difficulties through diplomacy," said the leader, who described this moment as "decisive" for the political future of the country.
Rodríguez stated that his administration is committed to stability and national reconstruction "through understanding and peace," in contrast —he said— to the "extremist currents" that have caused "so much pain" in Venezuela's recent history.
