The authorities of the municipality of Caibarién, in Villa Clara, reported the escape of a crocodile from the local zoo, an incident that has raised concerns among the area's residents.

The journalist Henry Omar Pérez reported on Facebook that the reptile managed to escape by taking advantage of a gap in the perimeter fence of the facility. Immediately, the zoo staff launched a search operation, with the support of local authorities, to locate the animal.

Experts estimate that, based on the approximate time the escape occurred, the crocodile could still be within the zoo areas.

However, they have issued a warning to the public to avoid approaching the animal if spotted and to report any information to the municipal government or the zoo administration.

Residents of Caibarién expressed their concern on social media, emphasizing the need to strengthen security conditions at the zoo and the quality of life for the animals there.

Some users pointed out that the park's facilities show visible deterioration, while others lamented that "the animals live in precarious conditions" and that "it was only a matter of time for something like this to happen."

In May 2024, a monkey escaped from the Caibarién zoo and left the neighbors on edge. The government had to request the intervention of black beret soldiers to capture the animal, which was showing signs of aggression and hunger, as it had stolen food from various apartment balconies in the area.

The search for the crocodile continues this Thursday. Authorities are urging the public to remain calm, follow official instructions, and avoid spreading unverified rumors. So far, they have not confirmed that the animal has been captured.
