The Cuban actress Ana de Armas will star in the film "Sweat", a psychological drama in which she will play an ambitious fitness influencer going through a deep personal crisis.
Directed by the British J. Blakeson, known for the film “I Care a Lot”, the movie is an adaptation of the Polish feature film of the same name that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2020 under the direction of Magnus von Horn, reported EFE.
In the story, De Armas portrays Emma Kent, a young trainer and wellness influencer who dreams of achieving the fame of her idol, Kat Highbrook.
However, after a failed meeting with her idol, Emma agrees to a risky deal with Trent, an obsessed fan, who plunges her into a spiral of tension and danger that forces her to confront the limits of her ambition and the toxicity of digital culture.
The production of "Sweat" will begin on March 30 in Los Angeles and the United Kingdom, with funding and co-production from AGC Studios.
Ana de Armas, previously embroiled in scandals in Cuba due to her links to the stepson of dictator Miguel Díaz-Canel, has solidified her international profile following her involvement in the action film "Ballerina," a spin-off from the "John Wick" universe.
She also received critical acclaim for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in the Netflix biopic “Blonde,” which earned her her first Oscar nomination for Best Actress.
With this new project, the Cuban actress continues to expand her career in Hollywood, blending high-profile productions with roles that carry a strong emotional and psychological weight.
