A group of people staged a repudiation act against Mike Hammer, the United States ambassador to Cuba, as he was leaving the San Francisco de Paula Church in Trinidad after visiting Father José Conrado Rodríguez.
According to a report by professor and researcher Yanetsy Pino on Facebook, the diplomat visited the parish this Saturday morning.
Upon leaving the place, five people shouted at and confronted him in public, in what the author described as an act of repudiation.
Pino stated that the video of the incident was sent to him from Trinidad and noted that in the initial seconds, the "shouting" of those involved can be heard.
Since the early months of 2025, relations between the Cuban regime and U.S. Ambassador Mike Hammer have been marked by increasing tension.
Hammer has denounced the constant surveillance by the State Security during his travels across the country, claiming that regime agents were continuously following and filming him.
“They are constantly filming us”, stated the diplomat from Miami. Shortly after, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) summoned him to accuse him of inciting citizens to commit crimes and undermine constitutional order, a complaint that heightened diplomatic tension.
Tension reached a new critical point in June 2025, when a group of undercover agents staged a disruptive event in Lanchita de Regla, while the diplomat was on his way to mass at the Church of Our Lady of Regla.
The incident, captured on video, showed alleged citizens confronting the ambassador, which was later confirmed to be an operation orchestrated by State Security.
The next day, Hammer downplayed the incident and reaffirmed his commitment to "street diplomacy," focused on directly listening to the Cuban people.
Far from apologizing, the regime intensified its propagandistic manipulation of the incident. In the following weeks, the official offensive continued.
Controlled media by the Communist Party published cartoons and articles to ridicule the diplomat, portraying him as an "unabashed anti-communist."
The cartoon published in Granma reflected the regime's hostility towards Hammer's direct and transparent diplomacy.
