The Washington Nationals have reached an agreement with the Cuban left-handed pitcher Cionel Pérez, which includes an invitation to the Spring Training of the Major Leagues, according to journalist Francys Romero on his social media.
According to the communicator, Pérez, 29 years old, arrives with a real chance to be included in the roster for Opening Day, driven by his current form and the interest he has generated in the market.
More than ten organizations have shown specific interest in the Cuban reliever, who currently throws at speeds ranging between 98 and 99 miles per hour, in addition to demonstrating outstanding physical condition.
The move represents a new opportunity for the Villaclare pitcher to establish himself in MLB and strengthen Washington's bullpen at a time when the franchise is looking for depth and experience in its relief corps.
