An emotional video shared on TikTok captures the moment when a young Cuban reunites with her mother at an airport in Mexico, in a scene that has moved thousands of users on social media.
In the images shared on the account @lile_pozo_2.0, the mother is seen emerging from the international arrivals area while her daughter waits for her, clearly anxious. As soon as they catch sight of each other, both rush to embrace in a long hug, filled with tears and emotion.
The video features the message: “I hugged my mom again in Mexico,” accompanied by the flags of Cuba and Mexico, a detail that encapsulates the feelings of thousands of families separated by emigration.
The post has generated a wave of comments from Cubans both inside and outside the Island, many of whom relate to the scene. “How I long for a hug like that from my sister who is in Cuba,” wrote one user. Another person commented: “Aaah, I'm crying too and I don't even know who they are, greetings and blessings,” reflecting the sensitivity that these kinds of reunions evoke.
There were also welcome messages from Mexico: “Welcome to Mexico, give it lots of love and show it all the beautiful things of my lovely and beloved Mexico” and “My dear Cuban brothers, Mexico always keeps you in mind, this is your home.”
Other internet users shared their own hopes: "This is how I hope to see my husband soon through that door. He will also be coming from Cuba, I will be the same or worse."
In recent years, Mexico has become a transit point as well as a destination for thousands of Cubans leaving the island in search of better opportunities. Every documented family reunion on social media serves as a reflection of the human impact brought about by migration.
Beyond the viral nature of it, the embrace between mother and daughter symbolizes the shared longing of so many Cuban families separated by distance, restrictions, and the difficult economic situation the country is facing.
