Inter Miami will visit the White House on March 5 as the champion of the 2025 MLS Cup in what could be the first meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Argentine star Lionel Messi.

Messi's camp, when asked by The Athletic, did not comment on whether the Argentine will or will not be present for the visit.

The meeting was scheduled in relation to the team's trip to Washington for the match against DC United on Saturday, March 7, according to sources from the White House who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

However, a source confirmed to the Miami Herald that all the players will attend the ceremony with Trump, including the Argentine.

It will be Messi's first time at the White House after he declined to attend in January 2025 due to scheduling issues when invited by Biden to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

In November last year, Trump welcomed football star Cristiano Ronaldo.

The captain of the Portuguese national team and player for Saudi club Al-Nassr arrived in Washington as part of the delegation led by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the guest of honor at a gala dinner.

Trump not only praised the Portuguese forward in front of the guests but also shared an intimate anecdote that drew laughter and applause: “You know? My son is a big fan of Cristiano Ronaldo. Now that you're here, I think my son respects his father a little more after I introduced you. Thank you for being here; it's an honor,” he stated.
