The tension surrounding the launch and interception of missiles in Qatar marked three days of distress for the Spanish ex-athlete of Cuban descent, Orlando Ortega, who stated that he even observed projectiles from his home in Doha while constant alerts sounded on his mobile phone.

The athlete himself shared his experience in statements sent to sports media, where he explained that the first day was the most difficult due to the fear and uncertainty caused by the situation in the Qatari capital.

Ortega reported that the alarms were going off every few minutes with instructions to stay indoors and not be outside. From the balcony of his apartment, he stated that he could see missiles flying over the area before being intercepted in the air.

The vaulter acknowledged that his greatest fear was for his daughter and his wife.

In light of the risk, they both prepared a room as a provisional shelter, stocking it with basic supplies and essential items to protect themselves in case of a major emergency.

According to his explanation, one of the projectiles may have passed near Doha airport, although he clarified that he does not have official confirmation of this fact.

He assured that he was also intercepted and that the airport terminal continued to operate normally.

The athlete noted that much of the tension surrounds a U.S. military base located in the country, although he specified that his residence is a considerable distance away from that facility.

After three days of nervousness and fear, Ortega indicated that the situation seemed calmer, although uncertainty persists.

He expressed his hope that the crisis will end soon and that life in Doha will return to normalcy.
