New images released by the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) show the moment when U.S. forces attack and destroy Iranian navy vessels near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

According to the military agency's report on social media, the operations took place on March 10 and resulted in the destruction of multiple Iranian vessels, including at least 16 ships used to deploy naval mines in that key area of the Persian Gulf.

The videos published by CENTCOM show direct attacks on several vessels at sea, amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran over the security of one of the most important energy routes on the planet.

"The U.S. forces are degrading the Iranian regime's ability to project power at sea and harass international shipping," the military command stated in a message posted on X.

The institution added that for years, Iran has threatened the freedom of navigation in waters deemed essential for the security and prosperity of the United States, the region, and the global economy.

The images came to light following intelligence reports indicating that Iran had placed naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most strategic maritime passages in the world for oil transport.

This strait connects the Persian Gulf with the Indian Ocean, and approximately one-fifth of the oil traded globally passes through it, making it a critical point for international energy security.

Following the release of those reports, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, issued a direct warning to Tehran, stating that any attempt to undermine the area would have severe military consequences.

"If Iran has placed mines in the Strait of Hormuz, we want them removed immediately. If they are not removed, the military consequences for Iran will be of an unprecedented level," the leader wrote on social media.

Shortly after, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth reported that U.S. forces had begun operations to neutralize vessels used to place mines in the strait.

Trump also stated that the U.S. forces destroyed several vessels used for that purpose and warned that operations could continue if threats against international navigation persist.

Tension in the region has generated volatility in energy markets, as any disruption in traffic through the Strait of Hormuz could impact the flow of millions of barrels of oil per day to global markets.
