Miguel Díaz-Canel stated this Friday in a televised appearance regarding the relations between the United States and Cuba that those arrested in connection with the incident that occurred on February 25 with a speedboat confessed to the plan that, according to Cuban authorities, they intended to carry out.

During his intervention, the leader stated that the investigations carried out by the state security agencies had clarified the facts and that those involved had acknowledged their participation.

Díaz-Canel stated that the arrested individuals confessed to the authorities the plan they allegedly intended to carry out.

He mentioned those confessions as part of the explanation provided regarding the case and as an argument to uphold the official version of events.

The ruler placed the episode within the context of the tensions between Cuba and the United States, a central theme of his television address.

The case is already being "investigated."

In that context, he noted that Cuban authorities investigated the case and presented evidence that, according to their account, would demonstrate the existence of the reported plan.

During the appearance, Díaz-Canel also defended the actions of state institutions in response to such events and reiterated the government's position that certain actions involving illegal exits from the country or the use of vessels may be linked, according to the official narrative, to operations organized from abroad.

It also revealed that the regime is anticipating a possible visit from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) from the United States to collaborate on the investigation into the incident in which five people died.

Díaz-Canel described the event as “an armed infiltration with terrorist aims, funded and organized from U.S. territory.”

He explained that Havana has already informed Washington about what happened, and that the U.S. side expressed, through diplomatic and consular channels, its interest in participating in the clarification of the events.

"Information regarding the events was timely provided to the U.S. counterpart, which has expressed through diplomatic and consular channels its interest in participating collectively in clarifying the facts. We are awaiting a possible visit from the FBI to further advance this investigation," he said.

He pointed out that the ten crew members of the vessel entered Cuban territorial waters irregularly and were "heavily armed," thus refuting an initial version from U.S. sources that suggested a possible family rescue on the island.
