Gerardo Hernández, national coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) and one of the five spies of the Wasp Network, reacted to the massive blackout that occurred in Cuba with a message on social media in which he appealed to political slogans amid the energy crisis.
In his X account, Hernández wrote: “Last night we were in La Güinera when we learned about the new fall of the SEN. Down with the blockade! No one will bring this people to their knees!”
The message was accompanied by a video in which the official describes the situation from that Havana neighborhood, visibly affected by the lack of electricity.
"Hey, the power went out and we got caught in La Güinera. Unbelievable. And there's a darkness looking this way... Why do I even tell you?" he remarks while showing the completely dark surroundings.
During the recording, Hernández tries to downplay the severity of the situation and states that the electrical system will recover. "Let's hope it hasn't taken too many hits and that it will be up soon. It will recover, there is no doubt about that," he says.
However, their statements contrast with the real impact of the blackouts on the population, which is facing prolonged power outages, food shortages, and serious difficulties in accessing basic services.
The repeated use of the "blockade" argument as an explanation has faced criticism from Cubans, who point to internal structural problems as the fundamental causes of the deterioration of the national electrical system.
The collapse of the National Electro-Energetic System adds to a persistent energy crisis that keeps the country in a state of constant blackouts, directly affecting daily life and causing increasing social unrest in various provinces.
