A video posted on TikTok by Cuban user Natalia Ramos has sparked intense debate on social media after showing her handing out money to several children in her neighborhood in Cuba.
In the images, the young woman is seen giving money to the children while spending time with them in a humble setting. "I gave them what I could and shared a beautiful day with them... but I left with a broken heart, because I realized that their smile was great, but their need was even greater," she wrote in the post.
During the video, he is also heard saying: “This is humility that I am showing to all my child's little friends from the neighborhood, because I know what they are going through. I am giving this to you so you can buy some goodies.”
The gesture, which reflects the harsh economic reality faced by many families in Cuba, sparked divided reactions among users.
Some internet users applauded the act of solidarity and highlighted the intention to help amid the scarcity: “What matters is the action, you should do it too,” commented a user in defense of the gesture.
However, others questioned why the assistance was recorded and shared on social media. "That shouldn't be recorded when it's given from the heart," commented one internet user. "For me, that's something that should be done in private," added another.
There were also criticisms about the way assistance was provided, suggesting alternatives: “I would have preferred to buy toys and throw a party for everyone,” commented another user.
The video reignites the debate over the display of acts of solidarity on social media and simultaneously reflects the difficult situation many children on the island are facing, where gestures like this are becoming increasingly common due to the economic crisis.
