The President of the United States, Donald Trump, joked about the possibility of running in Venezuela and defeating Delcy Rodríguez, amid the current political landscape of the South American country.
During a public appearance, Trump remarked ironically that he could run for office in Venezuela and defeat the current figure of chavista power.
"I am the person with the most support in the polls. After the presidency, I could go to Venezuela and run against Delcy. I might compete against Delcy. They like me in Venezuela," he stated.
The president also highlighted the current relationship between Washington and Caracas, assuring that his administration has achieved significant economic benefits.
"We have done a great job with Venezuela. We have received billions of dollars. Venezuela is better now than ever in its history. It's like a joint venture," he said.
The statements come in a context marked by the political transition following the capture of Nicolás Maduro in January 2026, which led to Delcy Rodríguez assuming the role of interim president with institutional support.
Although the comment about a candidacy was clearly a joke, it reflects the prominent role that the United States plays in the Venezuelan process and the political closeness between both administrations during this transitional phase.
