The informal currency market in Cuba starts this Sunday with no changes in its main references, consolidating a trend of stability at high levels that has persisted for several consecutive days.

According to the daily monitoring of the parallel market, the United States dollar (USD) remains at 515 Cuban pesos (CUP), while the euro (EUR) continues at 580 CUP, with no changes compared to previous days. Meanwhile, the freely convertible currency (MLC) is at 400 CUP, following several recent days of slight fluctuations.

Informal exchange rate in Cuba Sunday, March 29, 2026 - 05:00

  • Exchange rate of the dollar (USD) to Cuban pesos CUP: 515 CUP
  • Exchange rate of the euro (EUR) to Cuban pesos CUP: 580 CUP
  • Exchange rate from (MLC) to Cuban pesos CUP: 400 CUP

This stability in the dollar and the euro confirms the trend observed over the last week, during which both currencies have remained virtually unchanged.

Exchange Rate Evolution

Far from indicating an improvement in the economy, this behavior reflects the consolidation of a new level for the informal market, where the Cuban peso continues to weaken against foreign currencies.

The only significant movement has been that of the MLC, which has shown greater volatility, with occasional spikes up to 410 CUP followed by subsequent declines. This behavior is linked to its direct connection with domestic consumption and the availability of products in state-run stores.

In general terms, the informal market continues to operate as the main indicator of the real value of the Cuban peso. The current stability does not imply a recovery, but rather a persistence at historically high levels within a context characterized by inflation, a shortage of foreign currency, and a loss of purchasing power among the population.
