The US dollar (USD) is trading in the Cuban informal market at 515 CUP, according to the elTOQUE reference for this March 19.
The currency dropped in price on Wednesday to 513 CUP, but regained its value this Thursday. It remains strong on the island, where the Cuban peso continues to lose purchasing power against the main foreign currencies.
The euro (EUR), for its part, reaches 580 CUP, positioning itself above the dollar as the strongest currency. This is its sale record in the Cuban black market, surpassing the value it had on March 16, when it was quoted at 579 CUP.
The European currency continues to be in high demand for those seeking to protect their income against the devaluation of the Cuban peso and the limitations of the national financial system.
Exchange Rate Evolution
Regarding the MLC (Freely Convertible Currency), its rate is set at 410 CUP. Although it is below the dollar and the euro, the MLC remains a key reference within the Cuban economy, particularly for purchases in state-run stores that exclusively operate in this currency.
