The Facebook page of the Tigres Avileños announced the news.

"With deep sadness and still in shock from this tragic news, our page has just learned about the sudden passing this Sunday afternoon of Avileño pitcher Reinaldo Jonh Lovell due to a heart attack. Lovell, who was only 24 years old, debuted with Ciego de Ávila in the 64th National Baseball Series. Our sincerest condolences go out to all his family and friends," they reported.

According to the sports portal Swing Completo this Sunday, the cause of death was reported to be a heart attack.

In the 64th National Series of Baseball (2025-2026 season), Lovell Querol participated in 11 games as a reliever, pitching 13.0 innings with an earned run average of 11.08 and a batting average against of .314.

The Tigres de Ciego de Ávila had a challenging season in that edition of the tournament, finishing in last place with a record of 30 wins and 45 losses.

However, the franchise had just won the championship of the Cuban Elite Baseball League 2025, sweeping the Tunas Leñadores in the final.

The death of Lovell Querol occurs just a year after the passing of another young Cuban pitcher: Dorvis Lornet Navarro Queralta, pitcher for the Piratas de la Isla de la Juventud, who died on March 25, 2025, from a heart attack while training in Nueva Gerona, at the age of 24.

Before that case, in March 2022, Cuban baseball also mourned the death of Ulfrido García, a 28-year-old pitcher from Santiago, who was a victim of a cardiac arrest.
