The independent feminist observatories Alas Tensas (OGAT) and Yo Sí Te Creo en Cuba (YSTCC) confirmed two new femicides, raising the total number of crimes of this nature recorded in Cuba to 15 so far this year.
The victims are Yarisleidis Saavedra Hernández and Maylén Fernández Soriano, both 26 years old, murdered on the same day, Monday, April 7, in different provinces of the country.
Yarisleidis was killed by her own father in their home in Las Maravillas, San Juan y Martínez, Pinar del Río. The assailant took his own life after committing the crime. Observatories classified the case as a "family feminicide with clear signs of macho violence."
The organization expressed its condolences to the girl that Yarisleidis leaves behind, "and to the entire family that is suffering the loss of two people and is affected by violence."
Alas Tensas warned on Facebook that this type of crime committed by a father against his daughter represents a "rare" category, and linked it to the social decline caused by the humanitarian crisis currently facing Cuba, "which has no end."
The second case occurred in the town of San Juan, municipality of Jesús Menéndez, Las Tunas. Maylén Fernández Soriano was killed by her partner in the presence of their young child.
"Still alive and in extreme precariousness, Maylén was transported to the hospital on an ox cart and passed away before arriving," the note specifies.

These figures add to the 13 femicides already documented during the first quarter, with six cases in January, one in February, and six in March.
In 2025, 48 femicides were recorded in Cuba, with 83.3% committed by partners or former partners of the victims.
