The Miami-Dade County tax collector, Dariel Fernández, announced the revocation of business licenses for two companies accused of operating in violation of federal regulations related to Cuba.

The affected companies are Managua Travel Agency Inc., which operates as Cuba Travel & Services; and R & R Logistics Customer Freight Solutions LLC.

Both companies had their Local Business Tax Receipts revoked in December after failing to respond to multiple legal requests for information issued by the collector's office.

Managua Travel Agency operates with three locations in Hialeah, Homestead, and Miami; while R & R Logistics is based in Doral.

The Local Business Tax Receipt is the basic license required to operate any business within Miami-Dade.

Without that permit, a business cannot legally open, bill, serve customers, or provide services in the county.

This action is part of a broader campaign by the tax collector, who previously notified 3,909 businesses in the county of possible ties to Cuba, and also sent 50 new compliance notices to a second batch of companies under investigation.

The process has not been without controversies: at least one company filed a lawsuit against the county in response to these measures.

Additionally, recently Waldersee Oge, a 46-year-old employee from the office, was arrested, on corruption charges.

Fernández warned that continuing to operate without this license could lead to fines and other legal consequences, and he stressed that he will proceed to revoke Local Business Tax licenses for those who do not comply with the law.

"The county will not allow businesses to operate outside the bounds of the law," he emphasized.
