A woman identified as Angélica Peña publicly reported on Facebook the theft of her mother's belongings from her suitcase at the Frank País International Airport in Holguín, in a case that once again highlights the ongoing issue of baggage theft at airports in Cuba.

According to his account, his mother was returning from a trip and decided to check her carry-on bag in the airplane's hold because it contained several Cuban perfumes she had bought as gifts, in addition to her personal belongings.

Upon collecting the luggage after landing, he noticed suspicious signs: the suitcase was lighter than usual and the lock appeared to have been tampered with.

Once at home, upon careful inspection, he confirmed the missing of two perfumes.

Four boxes of thick cigarettes had also disappeared, and in addition, an envelope containing important documents related to the ownership of the house had been opened.

The complainant described what happened as "a huge disrespect" and questioned the impunity with which, in her opinion, these events occur.

“It is very frustrating that things are left like this, without consequences. How many more people are experiencing the same?” she pointed out.

In his message, he also issued a warning to those traveling to the island: "Please, to all the people traveling to Cuba: be very careful with your belongings, especially when sending luggage. We cannot continue to normalize this type of situation."

Similar cases have been reported repeatedly on social media, where passengers report partial thefts of luggage, tampering with suitcases, and loss of valuable items, often with no known outcomes from investigations or sanctions against those responsible.

The situation fuels the perception of insecurity at the country's airport facilities and heightens the concerns of travelers who are increasingly opting to take extra precautions against the risk of losing their belongings.
