Elderly individuals in Camagüey must sleep on the ground of the Charity Bank portal, in the provincial capital, to guarantee a spot and collect their pension the following day.

The complaint was published on Facebook by the journalist José L. Tan Estrada, who describes a scene that repeats itself in front of that branch of the Banco Popular de Ahorro, located on Avenida Libertad in the city.

"This is the portal of the Charity Bank in Camagüey. It is not a waiting room, it is not a shelter, it is not a refuge. It is the cold ground where our retirees slept on the streets to collect their pensions that barely suffice to survive," the journalist reported.

The image shows elderly people with sheets, cardboard, and tattered blankets, lying outside the establishment.

The situation occurs in a context of reduced banking hours, exacerbated by power outages in Camagüey, forcing pensioners to spend the night on the sidewalks to secure a place in line before the branches open.

The situation has reached such an extreme that at times the police had to intervene to manage the lines of elderly people, highlighting the collapse of the Cuban banking system and the neglect faced by senior citizens on the island.
