A woman is in critical condition after being attacked with a knife near the Camagüey railway station on Sunday night, marking the second violent assault reported in that area in less than a week.
The incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. next to the train station, when the assailant attacked the woman to steal her bicycle, leaving her in critical condition, according to a report published on Facebook by the user Aniuska Martines.
"The incident that occurred on the night of April 12 next to the Train Station in Camagüey is the second case in less than a week. It is not just another robbery; it is the symptom of a society that is losing control," he warned.
The complaint deemed "the most outrageous" the fact that the assault occurred less than a block from the Avellaneda police station, and criticized that the officers are "very busy" dealing with the appearance of posters against the Castro regime, while "criminals operate with complete freedom and in plain sight of the streetlights (when they are on)."
The author of the post revealed that a relative of the victim said they had not reported the case to the authorities "for fear of reprisals from the thieves."
In the comments on the post, many people expressed concern and alarm over the rise in crime and the inaction of the police in the province.
Just two days before this attack, another armed robbery had been reported near the train terminal itself, also involving the theft of a bicycle.
The news portal Cuba Herald reported that on April 10, around 9:00 p.m., a group of individuals intercepted a woman, threatened her with a knife, and took her bicycle. The victim screamed for help, but no one assisted her.
So far, local authorities have not provided official information regarding either case. It is unknown whether those responsible have been identified and apprehended.
