The confrontation between Donald Trump and Pope Leo XIV takes a new turn, this time with a direct and unequivocal message from the U.S. president, who insisted that the pontiff must understand the severity of the conflict with Iran.

"It is important for the Pope to understand this. I have to do what is right," Trump stated, making it clear that he will not back down from his position, even if it means a direct clash with the leader of the Catholic Church.

The president reacted to the Pope's stance on the conflict in the Middle East, reiterating his absolute rejection of Iran developing nuclear weapons. "Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. If they do, the entire world would be in danger," he warned.

Trump went further in trying to justify his stance with figures of violence in the Persian country. According to him, more than 42,000 protesters have allegedly been killed in recent months. “Unarmed protesters, with nothing... the Pope needs to understand that. This is the real world; it’s a tough world,” he insisted.

The president also defended his right to openly disagree with the pontiff. “The Pope can say whatever he wants, but I can disagree,” he pointed out, maintaining a personal tone while drawing a distinction: “I have nothing against the Pope.”

However, amidst that attempt to add nuance, he reintroduced an element that has generated controversy in recent days: his closeness to the pope's brother. “His brother is completely MAGA. I like him. He’s a great guy,” he commented, referring to Louis Prevost.

These statements come amid rising tensions between the White House and the Vatican, following several days of public exchanges. Pope Leo XIV has criticized Washington's warlike rhetoric and has insisted on the need to stop the war and protect civilians, while Trump has responded by accusing him of weakness and failing to understand the threat posed by Iran.

The clash has escalated as the hours go by. Trump has even questioned the legitimacy of the pope and accused him of behaving like a politician, while Leon XIV has responded that he is not afraid of the U.S. administration and will continue to defend the message of the Gospel in the face of violence.

In this context, the president's warning about Iran not only reflects a geopolitical stance but also a symbolic challenge to one of the most influential figures in the world, at a time when war and diplomacy seem to be clashing head-on... with no signs of a truce.
