Rosalía dresses as a bride and takes off the ring: the gesture that many see as a message to Rauw

Rosalía surprised her fans with the release of the music video for "Focu 'Ranni", one of the most anticipated songs from her fourth studio album, "LUX", which now debuts on digital platforms alongside three additional tracks in the expanded edition "LUX (Complete Works)".

The video, directed by photographer and filmmaker Petra Collins, has sparked a buzz on social media since its premiere: Rosalía appears dressed as a bride, blindfolded at the beginning, in a dark, rainy setting, surrounded by motorcycles and accompanied by a group of women also in bridal gowns and leather jackets.

The most talked-about moment comes when the artist literally takes off her engagement ring, in what many fans and performers have interpreted as a symbolic gesture directed at Rauw Alejandro, with whom she was engaged in 2023 and whose wedding never took place.

The dress captures much of the conversation: a classic cut inspired by 1980s fashion, featuring puffed sleeves, embellishments, lace, gold and white floral embroidery, and a cathedral train that carries all the symbolic weight of the moment. Rosalía had publicly stated her desire to marry Rauw Alejandro in a design by Vivienne Westwood, and precisely in a video, she wore it while performing "La Perla" on Jimmy Fallon’s show...

The song, whose title means "great fire" in Sicilian, is an anthem of personal freedom. "I will not be your half / Never your property / I will be mine / And of my freedom," sings Rosalía, rejecting the idea of a soulmate and completing herself.

Other verses reinforce the interpretation that the theme alludes to her history with the Puerto Rican artist: "No one will throw rice to the sky anymore / There will be no drunkenness or flowers" or "I carved your name into my ribs / But my heart never had your initials," referring to the tattoo of Rauw's name on her ribs, which has become less visible in her recent stage appearances.

Rosalía herself revealed in an interview with "M Le magazine du Monde" that she was inspired by Santa Rosalía of Palermo, a hermit who chose not to marry the day before her wedding. "I found it to be an incredible coincidence," said the artist, who when asked about this coincidence with her own life simply replied, "It's a long story."

The music video is filled with visual references: nods to the Saoko video with the motorcycles and female empowerment, to the painting "The Execution of Lady Jane Grey" by Paul Delaroche in the image of Rosalía with her eyes covered and dressed in white, and to the Hong Kong film "A Moment of Romance" (1990), where the protagonist escapes on a motorcycle in a wedding dress.

The launch coincides with Rosalía's last two concerts in Barcelona as part of her LUX Tour 2026, a tour of 42 shows in 17 countries that began on March 16 in Lyon and will conclude on September 3 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The breakup between Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro was confirmed in July 2023, just four months after the couple announced their engagement at the end of the Beso music video, part of the joint EP "RR". Rauw stated at that time: "Yes, a few months ago Rosi and I ended our engagement," denying that there were any third parties involved.

"It was a difficult song to compose and sing, but I feel grateful that it exists," Rosalía confessed in an interview with Billboard about "Focu 'Ranni," a piece that many already consider the most personal and honest of her entire career.
