The Russian channel RT en Español set up a screen with artificial intelligence that displays a young Fidel Castro inviting visitors to take a selfie with him at the V International Patriotic Colloquium held in Havana, which became the most eye-catching attraction of a propaganda event organized by the Cuban regime.

The colloquium, held from April 16 to 18 at the Cultural Station on Línea and 18, in Vedado, brought together more than 500 participants from over twenty countries, with the presence of President Miguel Díaz-Canel, the Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Roberto Morales Ojeda, and the Chancellor Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla.

The event was dedicated to the centennial of Fidel Castro's birth and the 65th anniversary of the victory at Playa Girón, and it was organized by the Unión de Periodistas de Cuba, Casa de las Américas, and the Cuban Chapter of the Network of Networks in Defense of Humanity. This was all part of a global propaganda front against the lies about Cuba.

Oliver Zamora Oria, RT correspondent in Havana, explained that the project is not new: "It is a project that has been around for some time and originated with Yuri Gagarin, the cosmonaut who invited people to take selfies from the Baikonur space station."

For its first participation in the Patria Colloquium, RT adapted the technology using Castro's figure, taking advantage of the centenary framework, although the process was not straightforward: "It was somewhat laborious due to the technological conditions, the issue of the Internet, and the software."

The Cuban regime has been promoting initiatives for years aimed at getting Cubans to defend, know, and love the dictator who passed away in November 2016.

Among the attendees at the event were some curious images: the official journalist Humberto López of revolutionary figures. Díaz-Canel, for his part, also appeared posing for the selfie initiative.
