The first Colonel Mónica Milián, Military, Naval, and Air Attaché of Cuba in Russia, stated this Friday in Moscow that "our people will fight no matter how difficult the circumstances" during the official ceremony commemorating the 65th anniversary of the victory at Playa Girón held near the monument to Fidel Castro in the Russian capital.

The event, titled "Fidel, inspiration of the Victory at Playa Girón, the struggle continues," was presided over by the Cuban ambassador in Russia, Enrique Orta, and brought together Russian internationalist veterans, officials from the Russian Foreign Ministry, deputies from the State Duma, military attachés, and staff from the Cuban mission in Moscow.

Milián, who has been linked to the recruitment of Cubans for the war in Russia against Ukraine, stated that Cuba is facing "an unlimited reproduction of the economic, financial, commercial blockade and the blockade of oil supply" by the United States, but that "despite the difficulties imposed from outside, our people will find solutions."

The official also invoked the Cuban fighters sent to Venezuela as an example of sacrifice: "with the example of our 32 fighters who gave their lives in defense of the brotherly people of Venezuela, so our people will fight."

Milián explicitly thanked Moscow's support: "We are very grateful for the assistance provided by the Government of the Russian Federation and the shipment of crude oil and fuel for electricity generation in our country at such a necessary time as this."

The Colonel Mijail Mojov, representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense, congratulated the Cuban people and stated that "no challenge or adversity has been able to break the will and dignity of the Cubans," also demanding the lifting of the American embargo.

Russian communists who also participated in the event stated that "only our common struggle, our common solidarity, will allow us to resist," and that the events of Playa Girón demonstrate that "it is possible to successfully resist even an empire as powerful as the United States of America."

The day before, Díaz-Canel presided over the ceremony in Havana for the 65th anniversary of the Proclamation of the Socialist Character of the Revolution, calling on Cubans to be ready to fight, while the regime released the official statement "Girón is today and always," in which it affirmed that Cuba will not be a trophy nor a star.

The figure of Milián has a dimension that the regime does not mention in its actions: since September 2023, Ukrainian intelligence sources have identified her as a key coordinator of the network recruiting Cuban mercenaries for the Russian army in Ukraine, acting as an intermediary between the Cuban minister Álvaro López Miera and the Russian Sergei Shoigu.

The Cuban government officially denies any military involvement in the Ukrainian conflict, but at least 93 Cubans have died in that war according to data confirmed up to January 2026, and Ukrainian intelligence estimates that over 20,000 Cubans have been recruited to fight on the Russian side.
