The left-handed Cuban pitcher Kendry Rojas, 23 years old and from Ciego de Ávila, was promoted to the Major League roster of the Minnesota Twins, as reported on Facebook by sports journalist Francys Romero.
Rojas will join the team this Tuesday, completing a journey of nearly six years since he signed his first professional contract directly from Cuba with the Toronto Blue Jays in October 2020 for $215,000.
The journalist Romero described the pitcher's journey as "a great story of overcoming challenges".
Throughout his development in the minor leagues, Rojas has stood out for his control and ability to limit contact from hitters, establishing himself as one of the most promising left-handed pitchers within the Twins' system. His steady progress allowed him to advance through the ranks until he finally earned his opportunity at the highest level.
Rojas's rise also highlights the increasing presence of Cuban talent in Major League Baseball, in a context where more and more players are managing to make their way through the professional system after leaving the island in search of better athletic opportunities.
For the young pitcher, this promotion represents not only the realization of a dream but also the beginning of a new challenge, where he will seek to prove that he has the necessary tools to remain in the demanding arena of Major League Baseball.
