A 29-year-old Cuban citizen was arrested in Milan after being caught by Italian police inside a car he was allegedly trying to steal, in a case that once again highlights the situation of migrants involved in crimes in Europe.

According to the State Police, the arrest took place on Friday, April 19, on Viale Piave, when agents conducting an operation against crime noticed a man closely watching several drivers, particularly those who had just parked.

The officers noticed suspicious behavior: the young man was waiting for a woman to lock her vehicle with the remote control and walk away. Immediately afterward, he opened the car door, got in, and began to rummage through the interior. The scene was witnessed directly by the officers, who intervened right away and arrested him on the spot.

During the arrest, the police found tools commonly used for this type of crime in his backpack, including a glass breaker and a signal jammer, a device that allows the remote locking of vehicles to be blocked without the owner noticing.

The victim was contacted by the agents and, upon returning to the location, confirmed that no belongings had been taken from her.

According to official information, the detainee has a criminal record and was charged with aggravated robbery. After being transferred to police custody, he was placed at the disposal of the Italian judiciary and required to appear before the authorities.

This case adds to recent reports in Milan regarding the use of signal inhibitors to commit thefts from parked vehicles, a method that is becoming increasingly common among criminals in various European cities.

The Viale Piave area had already been the scene of a similar case. In January of this year, a 32-year-old Cuban was arrested there after stealing on tram number nine and attempting to use the victim's bank card at a nearby branch.

In June 2025, another Cuban was arrested in the Milan metro for aggravated robbery using the jacket technique, and a third was apprehended for involvement in a violent robbery against a German tourist.

The possession of a glass breaker alongside a signal jammer exacerbates the classification of the crime under Italian law, which explains the charge of aggravated theft rather than a lesser offense.
