Cuban activist Yamilka Lafita Cancio, known on social media as Lara Crofs, has once again spoken out from Havana with a straightforward and unambiguous denunciation, claiming that State Security is trying to build a criminal case against her to justify the systematic harassment she faces.

In a lengthy message posted on Facebook, Lafita stated that regime agents have distributed a document in her community containing information about her personal life, in which—according to her complaint—her name is misspelled and she is labeled as “C/R,” an abbreviation for “counter-revolutionary.”

"They are trying to dig into my life going back fifteen years to fabricate a 'common crime' that justifies their harassment," wrote the activist, who also directly pointed to a supposed agent identified as "Luis Ariel," aka "Luisito," as part of the actions against her.

The complaint goes beyond mere surveillance. Lafita claims that neighbors have been asked to photograph her, not to accept help from her, and to provide information about their personal surroundings, including sensitive details such as possible illnesses or dynamics within their household. "That's not intelligence; it's the pathetic death rattle of a system that no longer convinces anyone," she stated.

Her statement comes just days after she was detained on April 18 in Havana, amidst a growing pressure against activists and opponents. Prior to her arrest, Lafita herself had reported the presence of agents surveilling her house, a pattern that—according to independent organizations—frequently recurs in Cuba: prior surveillance, arbitrary detention, and lack of formal charges.

In her recent publication, Lafita not only denounced the setup against her but also reaffirmed her political stance unequivocally. “Yes, I am counter-revolutionary,” she wrote, arguing that her rejection stems from decades of “misery, repression, and lack of freedoms.”

He also accuses the State Security of any harm he might suffer. "They are solely responsible for my physical integrity if anything were to happen to me," he stated.

The case of Lara Crofs once again highlights a reality that many Cubans are intimately familiar with: the constant pressure on those who choose to publicly express their dissent, even when that dissent manifests in actions as basic as helping others or refusing to remain silent.
