A couple was arrested for stealing packages at the Quantum on the Bay, a luxurious two-tower complex located in the Edgewater area of Miami, after surveillance cameras captured them taking bags and boxes from Amazon deliveries.

The thefts occurred between February 16 and 25 in the building located at 1900 N. Bayshore Drive, where several residents had reported the unexplained disappearance of packages, as reported by Telemundo

The cameras of the condominium recorded the arrival of a white Ford truck around 5:35 in the morning on February 16 in the loading area of the building.

A man and a woman got out of it and entered the back area of the place.

The man, identified as José Luis Pérez, 50 years old and a resident of Hialeah, was seen in the footage opening an access door and taking a bag of Amazon deliveries containing several packages inside.

The woman, identified as Vanessa Caridad Rodríguez, 35 years old, was collecting boxes that had already been delivered to the building's package area.

Both fled in the truck, but that same day the West Miami police arrested Rodríguez for driving without a valid license and without vehicle insurance. The officers noted that the vehicle matched the one captured in the condominium's surveillance videos, and Pérez was traveling as a passenger at that time.

Days later, Pérez was formally arrested last Sunday, according to Local 10.

During his interrogation, after being read his rights, he admitted to entering the building without permission along with his girlfriend and stealing the packages.

While being processed at the Turner Guilford Knight correctional center, a bag with suspected cocaine was found in his pocket.

Facing charges of breaking and entering an unoccupied structure, petty theft, and introduction or possession of a controlled substance.

Pérez appeared in court this Tuesday and remained in custody with bail to be determined. Rodríguez was not listed in the county Miami-Dade inmate records at the time of the report.

The key to accessing the building was insider knowledge: according to the police, Rodríguez had previously worked in an office on the sixth floor of the condominium, which allowed the couple to navigate the premises and know the location of the delivery area.

Additionally, a back access door was not functioning properly on the day of the thefts.

Residents of the building pointed out that on Sundays the packages are left unattended for longer periods. "They work all day, but on Sunday they don’t work and on Sunday the packages are outside, and that's why it's not right."
