The Cuban actor Luis Alberto García responded on Facebook to a follower who suggested organizing collections of medicines and food in Havana, revealing that he has been engaged in charitable work quietly and without seeking recognition for some time now.

Everything began when García posted a message seeking help to obtain Lorazepam —a hard-to-access anxiolytic in Cuba— for someone in urgent need of it, writing the name of the drug with dashes to bypass potential algorithmic filters: "An incredible human being, here in Cuba, desperately needs LO_RA_ZE_PAM to get through and climb the hill. There are many good people in this world. I trust."

The post immediately sparked a wave of supportive responses, with numerous people offering to donate the medication.

In that context, a follower took the opportunity to suggest that the actor call on other artists to collect medicines and food in the capital: "Just by being there, you can soothe souls and comfort the elderly and mothers. Help them; I know you can bring people together."

García responded directly and emotionally, making it clear that his commitment to the most vulnerable is neither new nor requires a spotlight: "Believe me, I have been and will continue to be guided by human beings far superior to me, who, from all corners, care for and are concerned with providing material and spiritual support to the needy and the ill. I am just one among those ranks. I seek no prominence or self-congratulation. I advocate for doing good from the shadows."

Excited to have received a response, the follower wrote: "I will cherish this moment as unique, and thank you for your help, for being there. I still see him as a timeless advocate for the helpless."

Other comments reinforced that idea, emphasizing that “what is done from the heart and for the good of others does not need recognition,” and even quoted the biblical passage from Matthew 6:3 about doing good in secret. Several users also praised the actor's humility, calling him “a great man” and highlighting his simplicity.

Among the reactions, there were also concrete suggestions for channeling assistance, such as references to independent initiatives that gather and distribute supplies to those in need.

In the midst of the prolonged crisis that Cuba is experiencing, characterized by shortages of medicine, food, and basic services, these types of individual initiatives—driven by citizens and public figures—have become a support for many families, given the state's inability to ensure decent living conditions.

This is not the first time García has mobilized for humanitarian causes; he previously also organized oncology medications for a child on the island, in a context marked by shortages and deficiencies in the healthcare system. His civic activism has also been accompanied by critical stances on social media, where he has denounced censorship, blackouts, and the social situation facing the country.
