Sandro Castro, grandson of Fidel Castro, promised on his Instagram stories eternal beer to anyone who names their daughter "Cristach," in a humorous – or quite serious, as one can never tell with the regime's jester – reaction to the viral phenomenon of little Apagonia, the girl whom a Russian resident in Cuba named in reference to the island's chronic blackouts.
The message from Sandro was straightforward: "whoever names their daughter Cristach I guarantee them beer forever".
"Cristach" is the nickname that the Cuban influencer gives to the beer Cristal, a brand that has become a hallmark of his public persona "Vampirach," an eccentric alter ego he builds on social media with absurd humor and the suffix "-ach" applied to multiple words.
In a second story, Sandro went further and declared himself the godfather of the girl Apagonia, also claiming authorship of the term: "How great you are, my love, I am the godfather of that girl, a word created by me, my Russian goddaughter".
The trigger for both publications was the viral video of Poli, a Russian resident in Cuba, who humorously explained why she named her newborn daughter that: "When it was done, the SEN fell. And when she was born, the SEN fell."
The clip of just 26 seconds amassed over 241,000 views and nearly 29,000 reactions in less than 24 hours, turning the young girl into an unwitting symbol of the electrical crisis that defines daily life in Cuba.
Poli also added an ironic detail about his daughter's dual nationality: "She is one and a half Russian, because she has a blue passport and a red one. She doesn't have the blue one yet, because there is no ink."
Sandro Castro, 33 years old, is the son of Alexis Castro and the owner of Bar EFE in Vedado, Havana.
With over 160,000 followers on Instagram, their content blends ostentation, satire, and subtle critiques of the Cuban government.
In March 2026, he declared to CNN that the majority of Cubans want to be capitalists, not communists and criticized Díaz-Canel.
The humor behind both names—Apagonia and Cristach—reflects the seriousness of a crisis that shows no signs of easing.
The National Electric System completely collapsed on March 16, 2026 for 29 hours and 29 minutes, and the generation deficit exceeded 2,000 MW at the beginning of that month.
Power outages have lasted up to 24 continuous hours in Havana and other provinces, due to structural causes that the regime has not resolved for decades: obsolete thermal power plants, lack of investment, and fuel shortages.
In June 2025, Sandro had already released a hip-hop song titled "La Cristach" in collaboration with several Cuban artists, which shows that his intention to turn the term into his own brand has deep roots. The promise of a lifetime supply of beer in exchange for the name is, in that context, a natural extension of a character who has made Cristal his banner.
