A fugitive wanted by federal authorities was captured this Thursday in Hialeah after two consecutive days of police incidents that kept law enforcement in southern Florida on high alert.
The suspect was located in a Walgreens pharmacy near the intersection of West 68th Street and 12th Avenue in Hialeah, where he was placed in custody by agents of the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), as confirmed by officials from that agency to Telemundo 51.
The capture operation involved agents from the FHP and the Hialeah Police, including a K-9 unit that was crucial in locating the suspect in the area of the commercial establishment.
On Wednesday, the same individual had already been involved in a chase with FHP agents and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which ended in the area of Northwest 137th Avenue and Northwest 178th Street in Hialeah, but the fugitive managed to escape on that first occasion.
On Thursday, eyewitnesses reported that the incident began once again as a chase, and the suspect jumped out of a truck and fled on foot before being located by the authorities.
During the operation, the fugitive attempted to escape, collided with several vehicles, and resisted arrest, according to authorities.
Finally, he was neutralized with a Taser electric gun and detained by the agents present in the area.
Images obtained from local sources showed a significant presence of armed agents running around the Walgreens, causing alarm among residents in the area, in a city that had already been the scene of a raid in February that resulted in 14 arrests involving multiple security agencies.
