The Cuban content creator Lauren Daniela has touched the hearts of thousands on social media by surprising her grandfather with a "morla," a tool that the elderly man had dreamed of having in his workshop.
Lauren explained that she received help from her followers to purchase the tool, which was not inexpensive. It cost her 20,000 Cuban pesos, equivalent to about 40 dollars.
The emotional reel has accumulated over 259,000 views and more than 2,000 comments, making it one of the most shared videos in the Cuban community on social media in recent days.
In the video, Lauren narrates how she went out to look for the tool with her aunt, walking for a long time until they found it. "Today, we fulfilled a dream for my grandfather. With the support I’ve received from my followers, my aunt and I went to buy him something he has wanted for his workshop for a long time," she explains at the beginning of the clip.
Upon arriving home, he asks his grandfather to close his eyes and extend his hands: "I brought you something you wanted." The elderly man's reaction was one of genuine astonishment: "What is this?" he wondered as he received the tool in its box. "Oh my goodness! My granddaughter is the best!"
What moved the users the most was the moment when Lauren showcases the inventions her grandfather created without proper tools: wheelbarrows, a barber chair, a small wedge for children to play with, and even a small bus that she claims was lost "due to issues in the country."
"Without tools, my grandfather has done incredible things," Lauren states in the video, summarizing in one phrase the ingenuity that scarcity forces one to develop in Cuba, but also the creativity that this Cuban has to transform the little that is available into useful things.
"In Cuba, even working is a challenge... but my grandfather's passion never retires. Today we fulfilled a dream and gifted him the morla he always wanted for his workshop," said Lauren.
The story resonated deeply with the followers. "Here I am in tears watching your video because I see myself reflected in you. I was raised by my uncles, who are my parents, and there is nothing that makes me happier than being able to fulfill a dream for them," wrote one of the users.
Another simply summarized what many thought: "That man is a mastermind."
