Karol G is going through a sad moment in her personal life following the passing of her aunt Teresa Giraldo, who was considered a fundamental pillar of the family clan, while her half-sister Katherin Giraldo took advantage of the mourning to send a message that many interpreted as a direct jab at their father, sparking controversy on social media.

The news of the passing was confirmed by Jessica Giraldo, the singer's sister, who posted an emotional tribute on Instagram: "Heaven is celebrating. God is welcoming one of the most special little angels He lent us here on earth. We love you, beautiful aunt. Your departure leaves us with an immense void. We will always honor your legacy of love, solidarity, and family unity."

The funeral was held privately in Medellín, with attendees dressed in white as a sign of farewell, away from the spotlight that typically surrounds the artist's family.

Although Karol G —whose real name is Carolina Giraldo Navarro— chose not to make public posts about the loss, videos shared on social media show her crying inconsolably and embracing her family members during the funeral.

Her followers respected the singer's silence and sent her messages of support, interpreting her discretion as a way to honor the mourning and protect her family's privacy.

In the midst of mourning, attention also turned to Katherin Giraldo, the artist's half-sister and daughter of Guillermo Giraldo with another woman, who shared a reflection in her stories that ignited the debate: "Not having a mother's love because she died is painful. But not having a father's love who is still alive is devastating."

The post was widely interpreted as a direct reference to her estrangement from her father, with whom, according to reports, she has not had frequent contact in several years.

Reactions on social media were divided: some users questioned the authenticity of the expressed pain, while others defended their right to express themselves.

Neither Karol G, nor her other sisters, nor Guillermo Giraldo publicly responded to Katherin's message.

This episode is not the first to shake the Giraldo clan in recent months. In February 2026, Verónica Giraldo experienced a separation with disputes over custody of her daughter Sophia and publicly expressed that she did not feel supported by her family, although she later appeared with her daughter at Coachella, showing that there was reconciliation.

Everything takes place during one of the brightest moments of the artist's career: just days before the duel, Karol G announced her world tour "Traveling the TropiTour World" with over 39 concerts in stadiums across three continents, and on April 24, she released the ballad "After You," featuring Greg González, a song about the void left by someone when they depart, which many related to the family loss she was experiencing.
