Daddy Yankee surprised the world with the release of "Echo," the third single from the official album of the FIFA World Cup 2026, a collaboration with Jamaican artist Shenseea that fuses reggaeton and dancehall over an electronic beat.
The track, presented by FIFA last Tuesday, was co-produced by the Puerto Rican Tainy, a multiple Grammy winner, along with Ibrahim Maalouf, Massari, Adium, Jota Rosa, and Albert Hype, and includes a snippet from Maalouf's song "Red & Black Light."
"Echo" arrives infused with Caribbean and Latin energy, featuring a dynamic rhythm designed for celebration and the unity between cultures surrounding the world's biggest football tournament.
The promotional images feature Daddy Yankee and Shenseea on a football-themed film set. According to comments on YouTube, the official music video is expected to be released on the Friday following the audio launch.
The launch is particularly significant as it marks the artist's return to a project with truly global reach following his announced retirement from secular music in 2022 and his conversion to evangelical Christianity in December 2023.
The singer, whose real name is Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez, had hinted at a comeback in November 2025 with the "BZRP Music Sessions, Vol. 0/66" alongside Bizarrap, but "Echo" places him on the biggest stage of the sports world.
The fans' reaction was immediate and overwhelming.
The comments on social media overflowed with excitement. "What couldn't be achieved in 2010... was accomplished in 2026, simply magnificent," wrote a user with nearly 500 reactions, referring to "Grito Mundial," the song that Daddy Yankee composed for the South Africa World Cup but which FIFA rejected in favor of Shakira's "Waka Waka."
"Finally, a great song for the 2026 World Cup," celebrated another fan, while dozens of comments in English, Spanish, and Portuguese agreed that the track has "the World Cup vibe" that was missing in the previous singles from the album.
«Echo» arrives following the releases of «Lighter» and «Por Ella», the first two singles from the official album, and enhances the sonic identity of the project with Caribbean and Latin influences.
The artist, regarded as the leading exponent of reggaeton worldwide thanks to hits like "Gasolina" and "Despacito", completed his farewell tour "La Última Vuelta World Tour" in 2022, which raised 205 million dollars with over 1.9 million attendees across 83 concerts.
The 2026 World Cup will be held in Mexico, the United States, and Canada, and many fans are already calling for Daddy Yankee to be part of the opening ceremony or the final: "I won't be satisfied with just one song; I need to see Daddy Yankee performing at the opening or final of the 2026 World Cup," wrote a fan who received over eighty reactions.
