Daddy Yankee surprised the world with the release of "Echo," the third single from the official album of the FIFA World Cup 2026, a collaboration with Jamaican artist Shenseea that blends reggaeton and dancehall over an electronic beat.
The theme, presented by FIFA last Tuesday, was co-produced by the Puerto Rican Tainy, a Grammy Award winner, alongside Ibrahim Maalouf, Massari, Adium, Jota Rosa, and Albert Hype, and incorporates a segment from Maalouf's song "Red & Black Light."
"Echo" is filled with Caribbean and Latin energy, featuring a dynamic rhythm designed for celebration and the unity among cultures surrounding the biggest tournament in world football.
The promotional images feature Daddy Yankee and Shenseea on a football-themed film set. According to comments on YouTube, the official music video is expected to be released on the Friday following the audio launch.
The release is particularly significant as it marks the artist's return to a truly global project following his announcement of retirement from secular music in 2022 and his conversion to evangelical Christianity in December 2023.
The singer, whose real name is Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez, had signaled a return in November 2025 with the "BZRP Music Sessions, Vol. 0/66" alongside Bizarrap, but "Echo" places him on the biggest stage in the world of sports.
The fans' reaction was immediate and overwhelming.
Comments on social media overflowed with enthusiasm. "What couldn’t be achieved in 2010... was accomplished in 2026, simply magnificent," wrote a user who received nearly 500 reactions, referring to "Grito Mundial," the song Daddy Yankee composed for the World Cup in South Africa, which FIFA rejected in favor of Shakira's "Waka Waka."
"Finally, a good song for the 2026 World Cup," celebrated another follower, while dozens of comments in English, Spanish, and Portuguese agreed that the track has "the World Cup vibe" that was missing in the previous singles from the album.
«Echo» arrives after the releases of «Lighter» and «Por Ella», the first two singles from the official album, and it expands the sonic identity of the project with Caribbean and Latin influences.
The artist, considered the foremost representative of reggaeton worldwide thanks to hits like “Gasolina” and “Despacito”, completed in 2022 his farewell tour “La Última Vuelta World Tour”, which raised 205 million dollars with over 1.9 million attendees at 83 concerts.
The 2026 World Cup will be held in Mexico, the United States, and Canada, and many fans are already calling for Daddy Yankee to be part of the opening ceremony or the final: "I won't settle for just one song; I need to see Daddy Yankee performing at the opening or final of the 2026 World Cup," wrote a follower who received over eighty reactions.
