A Cuban resident in Hialeah is accused of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl more than a dozen times, whom the mother had left in his care while she worked, according to authorities.
Enrique Domínguez Rodríguez, 48 years old and known as "Ricky," was arrested in that city in southern Florida on April 23 and faces charges of sexual assault and lewd conduct against a minor, confirmed the Hialeah Police Department to media outlets.
According to the arrest report, the events took place in a room at the Casanovas Boutique Motel, located at 1775 West Okeechobee Road, where the minor's family resided permanently.
The girl's mother, identified as Karla Subiza, had met Domínguez in July 2025 at the café where she worked and he was a regular customer.
When the man became homeless, Subiza invited him to live with her and her five children in a trailer home in a residential park, from which they were evicted a month later. The woman then rented a large room at the Casanovas Boutique Motel and allowed Domínguez to continue living with them, according to a report from El Nuevo Herald.
Subiza left the individual in charge of the five minors when she went to work.
The case came to light on January 24 of this year, when the children's grandparents found them alone in the motel and alerted the authorities.
On the same day, Subiza was arrested for child neglect and her children were placed in foster care under the child protection system.
The Florida Department of Children and Families reported the abuse case to the Hialeah Police on March 9, triggering a formal investigation.
On March 19, a forensic interview was conducted at Kristi House, a center specialized in child sexual abuse victims in Miami, where the girl —who was already 10 years old by then— detailed the assaults committed over several months by the man she only knew as "Ricky."
The minor stated to the forensic interviewer that the acts of sexual violence occurred between 10 and 20 times and that they caused her significant pain, according to the police report.
Additionally, he made a spontaneous drawing during the interview that illustrated what "Ricky" did to him, evidence that was recorded on video for legal use.
This type of forensic interviews allows minors to recount the events just once in front of trained professionals, preventing retraumatization, a procedure that has been followed in other child abuse cases investigated in Miami-Dade.
Domínguez was already in custody when the accusations of sexual abuse were formalized. The man had been arrested on April 11 in Hialeah on a charge of assault and was being held at the Metrowest Detention Center.
During a police interview, the girl's mother stated that upon learning about the charges, she began searching for Domínguez and discovered that he had been arrested for that fight.
Domínguez appeared before the court, where a judge ordered his permanent detention without bail due to the severity of the charges.
This case adds to previous investigations for child abuse in South Florida, where police operations in Miami-Dade have resulted in multiple arrests for crimes against minors in recent months.
Moreover, it highlights the vulnerability of low-income families, as confirmed by previous cases of child abuse in Hialeah.
