The Miami International Airport issued a travel advisory on Sunday night, warning passengers of potential delays "due to the movement of high-profile individuals," in reference to the visit of President Donald Trump to South Florida.
Trump was at his resort Trump National Doral to witness the final of the Cadillac Championship of the PGA Tour, a tournament held from April 29 to May 3 with a prize pool of 20 million dollars.
The airport warned that "temporary disruptions in runway operations are anticipated, and some access and exit roads from MIA may also be affected," and recommended that travelers allow "additional time for their journey."
The presidential route to the airport could impact traffic on Northwest 36th Street in Doral, and subsequently on State Road 112 (Airport Expressway) or State Road 836 (Dolphin Expressway).
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also issued a Temporary Flight Restriction under rule 91.141, affecting a 10 nautical mile radius centered around the Miami area and prohibiting general aviation operations at MIA, Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport, and Miami Executive Airport until 8:30 PM this Sunday.
Trump arrived in South Florida last Friday, after a stop in The Villages in Central Florida, and an event in downtown West Palm Beach.
The 2026 Cadillac Championship marked the return of the PGA Tour to Trump National Doral for the first time since 2016, when the circuit left the course.
The tournament was accompanied by the installation of a 22-foot tall golden statue of Trump at the resort, named "Don Colossus," created by sculptor Alan Cottrill and commissioned by the cryptocurrency group $PATRIOT for a total of $360,000.
Last Saturday, a man was arrested at Trump National Doral after assaulting a Secret Service agent at a security checkpoint, with enhanced measures using magnetometers at all entrances due to the presidential visit.
This is Trump's third visit to the Miami area in just a few weeks: in April, he attended the UFC 327 mixed martial arts event downtown, and at the end of March, he participated in a business and political summit at the Faena Hotel in Miami Beach.
Each presidential trip triggers road closures and air traffic restrictions due to Secret Service protocols, a pattern that has been repeated since Trump returned to the presidency in January 2025.
The Palm Beach International Airport has been renamed "Donald J. Trump International Airport" through law HB 919, sent to Governor Ron DeSantis on March 31.
Trump National Doral will also host the G20 summit on December 14 and 15, 2026, where world leaders will be welcomed at the same resort that is bidding farewell to the president this Sunday while delays occur at the nearest airport.
