An agent of the United States Secret Service was arrested early Monday morning in Miami after being caught engaging in indecent acts in a hotel hallway, just hours after working on security for a visit by President Donald Trump to a golf tournament in the city.

John Andrew Spillman, 33 years old, originally from Marble Falls, Texas, and based in Washington D.C., was arrested by the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office around 12:06 a.m. on Monday on a charge of indecent exposure, according to the arrest report.

The incident at the hotel

The incident occurred at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Miami Airport & Convention Center, located at 711 Northwest 72 Avenue, in the Miami-Dade area.

According to the arrest report, hotel guests reported that Spillman followed them from the lobby to the sixth floor of the building.

A woman reported to the police that she was in the lobby when the suspect followed her to her floor, and that she immediately entered her room because she "feared for her life."

From inside the room, the victim saw Spillman engaging in indecent acts near her door. Hotel security also responded to the call and found the agent "with his pants down" on the sixth floor, according to the report cited by the New York Post.

The previous mission: security for Trump in Doral

Spillman had finished his shift hours earlier as part of a perimeter security team assigned to President Trump's visit to the PGA Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral, held that same Sunday.

Trump attended the final round accompanied by family members, watching from a tent near hole 18. The agent was off-duty at the time of the incident, as confirmed by the Secret Service itself.

In recent days, another man was arrested at Trump National Doral after being involved in an incident at the same venue.

The response from the Secret Service

The head of the Uniformed Division of the Secret Service, Richard Macauley, issued an official statement in which he deemed Spillman's behavior unacceptable.

"The alleged conduct is unacceptable and stands in stark contrast to the professionalism and integrity I expect from our staff," stated Macauley, who added that the agency is taking the matter "with the utmost seriousness" and has placed the agent on administrative leave pending the criminal process and an internal investigation.

Spillman was taken into custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade with a bail of $1,000. He was assigned a public defender and, by Tuesday morning, he had already posted bail and was about to be released.

A context of intensified scrutiny

The arrest comes at a time of heightened sensitivity for the Secret Service. Just ten days prior, Cole Tomas Allen fired at an agent of the institution at a checkpoint at the Washington Hilton during the White House Correspondents' Dinner, where Trump was present. The agent survived thanks to his bulletproof vest, and Allen was charged with attempted murder of the president.

The agency's history of scandals includes the case in Cartagena, Colombia, in April 2012, when 11 agents were suspended for hiring prostitutes before the Summit of the Americas with then-President Barack Obama, which resulted in dismissals and internal reforms.

A former Cuban employee of Trump National Doral has also been linked to controversies surrounding the venue, which is set to host the G20 Summit in December 2026.

Spillman is scheduled for his next court appearance on May 27, when he will formally respond to the charge of indecent exposure.
