President Donald Trump attended the final round of the Cadillac Championship yesterday at his Trump National Doral resort in Miami, marking the first PGA Tour event at one of his owned courses since 2016.

The cameras of Golf Channel captured Trump in a spectator suite, accompanied by his son Eric Trump and his special envoy for foreign affairs Steve Witkoff.

The CBS commentator Trevor Immelman also noted that the president had dined with the players on Saturday night. According to a report from AOL, when golfer Cameron Young sank his final putt to win the tournament, Trump stood up, applauded, pointed at the champion, and raised his thumb.

Young won by six strokes over the world number one Scottie Scheffler, with a total of -19, and took home 3.6 million dollars from the total purse of 20 million.

Margo Martin, special assistant to the president, posted a video on X showing Trump raising his fist and greeting a crowd chanting "USA."

The return of the PGA Tour to Doral has a historic background: the circuit left the venue in 2016 following Trump's controversial statements on immigration and his proposal to ban the entry of Muslims into the United States, positions that the circuit deemed incompatible with its commitment to inclusion.

During the years of absence from the PGA Tour, the resort hosted LIV Golf circuit events from 2022 to 2025. The return of the traditional circuit now occurs with Trump as the sitting president.

The resort was also the setting for another event a few days ago: a 15-foot golden statue of Trump was installed in Doral, commissioned by a cryptocurrency group at a cost of $360,000.

On Sunday, there was also a security incident: a man was arrested at Trump National Doral after assaulting a Secret Service agent at a checkpoint, and he was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Just after Young's last putt, Trump posted an extensive message on Truth Social announcing the "Freedom Project", an operation to escort commercial vessels trapped in the Strait of Hormuz.

"Countries around the world have asked us to help free their ships, blocked in the Strait of Hormuz, in something they have absolutely nothing to do with," the president wrote.

The initiative began this Monday and is set against the backdrop of the crisis with Iran that started on February 28, when the Iranian regime blocked the strait in retaliation for airstrikes by the United States and Israel, leaving around 2,000 ships stranded and driving up oil prices.

Trump ordered a naval blockade against Iranian ports on April 12, and warned that any interference with Project Liberty "will have to be dealt with forcefully."

Iran rejected the operation; its state media described it as Trump’s "delusion," while the United States launched the operation to free the vessels with the support of its naval forces in the Gulf of Oman.

Trump returned to the White House on Sunday night, as his camp in Washington D.C. prepares to host the LIV Golf Virginia tournament next week, and Doral is set to host the G20 summit in December 2026.
