A Cuban woman lost her life early Tuesday morning after being attacked with a knife by her ex-partner inside the kitchen of the bar "La Hija de Cuauhtémoc," located in Supermanzana 510 on Cancún Avenue, in Quintana Roo, Mexico.

The alleged attacker, identified as José Antonio "N", of Cuban nationality, worked at the same establishment as the victim, with whom he reportedly had a previous romantic relationship, according to a from the Cancun Police.

According to reports, the couple was arguing in the kitchen when José Antonio "N" stabbed the woman several times with a knife and then fled the bar on foot.

Coworkers witnessed the aggression but fled for fear of being attacked.

The paramedics from the Rescue and Medical Emergency Squad (ERUM) who arrived at the scene confirmed that the victim showed no vital signs due to their injuries.

The woman's identity has not been publicly disclosed by the authorities.

Thanks to surveillance actions and preventive patrols, agents of the Cancun Police shortly located an individual who matched the description of the suspect in the vicinity of Region 510.

At the time of his arrest, José Antonio "N" had visible stains on his clothing and reacted violently against the officers, "shouting insults and physically and verbally assaulting the officers," according to the police statement.

He was detained on charges of resistance and disobedience to authority and was made available to the Attorney General's Office of the State of Quintana Roo.

The FGE has initiated investigations under the femicide protocol to determine the circumstances of the incident and the probable responsibility of the detainee.

So far, it has not been confirmed whether there were any prior reports of violence among those involved.

The crime occurred in a high-violence area. The bar "La Hija de Cuauhtémoc" is located just a few meters away from another establishment where, on the same night, a triple execution happened at the Carbonero bar, resulting in three dead and one injured in a shootout.

Cancún has a significant Cuban migrant community —the third largest foreign population in the state according to the 2020 census— many of whom work in the informal sector of bars and restaurants under precarious conditions.

According to a report from independent observatories such as Alas Tensas and Yo si te Creo Cuba, in 2025, 12 femicides of Cuban women were recorded abroad, with Mexico being one of the countries with the highest incidence, having two documented cases.

The detainee remains at the disposal of the Public Ministry while the FGE determines their definitive legal situation under the femicide protocol.
