"The Habanero" warns Trump: "If you put an aircraft carrier in Cuba, it will be filled with people."

The Cuban comedian Julio César Rodríguez, known as "El Habanero," has become a prominent figure on social media with a 21-second video in which he humorously responds to President Donald Trump's threats to send an aircraft carrier off the coast of Cuba.

The viral reaction, posted on Facebook, summarizes in a few words what many Cubans think: if a U.S. warship arrives, there will be no surrender of the regime, but rather a stampede of emigrants.

"I'm watching this news that says Donald Trump is going to park with an aircraft carrier there. You're being crazy. It's going to fill up with people. Then you won't be able to get out. Look, I'm going to give you a parking spot. Oh my goodness," says the artist in the clip.

The joke directly connects with the reality of an island in crisis. On May 2, Trump stated in The Villages, Florida that the U.S. would "take Cuba almost immediately" after concluding operations in Iran, and described the scenario of the USS Abraham Lincoln stopping "about 100 yards off the coast" to force the regime's surrender.

On Monday, the leader reiterated the threat in an interview with Salem News Channel, describing Cuba as "devastated at this moment, completely devastated," and conditioning any action on the conclusion of the conflict with Iran.

The humor of El Habanero resonates strongly because the crisis on the island is real and profound. Since January 2026, the Trump administration has intercepted at least seven tankers carrying oil destined for Cuba, reducing energy imports by between 80% and 90%, which has resulted in power outages of up to 25 hours a day in more than 55% of Cuban territory.

That context of desperation is what gives meaning to the joke: for millions of Cubans, an American aircraft carrier does not represent a military threat, but rather an opportunity for escape.

This is not the first piece of content of this kind that has gone viral lately. A pro-government journalist warned that Trump "would put" Cubans in Florida "at risk" if he attacked Cuba, and the response from the exile community was a flood of mockery. "It’s the funniest thing I’ve read today, the best meme, you’re going to go viral now. You’ll see," replied a user.

Meanwhile, the regime intensifies its rhetoric. Miguel Díaz-Canel warned on May 3 before delegates from 36 countries about "the imminence of a military aggression" and invoked the doctrine of the "War of All the People," stating that "every Cuban man and woman has a rifle."

The chancellor Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla also responded to Trump: "The Homeland, the Revolution, and Socialism are defended with ideas and with weapons. They will not intimidate us."

The escalation began on May 1, when Trump signed a new executive order that dramatically expands sanctions against the Cuban regime, targeting the energy, defense, mining, and financial services sectors.

The Economist Intelligence Unit projects an economic contraction of 7.2% for Cuba in 2026, a figure that illustrates the collapse that the Habanero summarizes with a single phrase: "Look, I'm going to give you your parking space."
