Óscar Portuondo, artistically known as Bolito El Efi, passed away in Havana due to a traffic accident, according to information shared on social media that spread quickly among the Cuban urban movement community.
The page of Facebook Rancho Destino shared the sad news with the message: "Passed away in Havana, Cuba. Bolito el Efi, as he was known in the Cuban entertainment scene, Rest in Peace."
Within hours, artists and figures from the Cuban urban genre began to express their sorrow through their social media accounts, turning digital platforms into a collective space for mourning and farewell.
One of the first to react was the rapper and singer Ja Rulay, who posted a story on Instagram with a message filled with disbelief and sadness: "Brother, I can't believe this. Bolito, rest in peace, brother."
Similarly, in his Instagram stories, the singer Oniel Bebeshito, who worked with the deceased for several years, expressed his sorrow over the event.
Bolito El Efi, who lived in the United States for a long time, is a well-known figure in Cuban entertainment, associated with the luxurious urban style that characterizes many figures of the genre both on the island and in the diaspora.
His death adds to a heartbreaking list of losses within the Cuban urban movement, a genre that has steadily grown over the past decade, primarily expanding through digital platforms like YouTube and Spotify, as well as social media.
The cubatón scene has already felt the impact of losing one of its figures in July 2020, when El Dany passed away, and another in October 2024 with the farewell of José Manuel Carbajal Zaldívar, El Taiger. Now, the death of Bolito El Efi once again shakes an artistic community that bids him farewell in an unexpected and premature manner.
