The Cuban third baseman Miguel Vargas made waves in MLB again this Saturday by hitting two home runs in the 6-1 victory of the Chicago White Sox over the Seattle Mariners at Rate Field, Chicago, bringing his total to nine home runs for the 2026 season.

The first home run, the eighth of his season, was a two-run shot in the third inning off starter Luis Castillo, driving in Sam Antonacci and extending the lead to 4-0.

The second, now the ninth of the year, was a solo home run in the fifth inning against reliever Josh Simpson, bringing the score to 5-1.

Both home runs exceeded 400 feet in distance and were hit against sinker pitches.

This was Vargas's second multi-home run game in his Major League career, and both have been with the White Sox. The first was on May 16, 2025, against the Chicago Cubs, when he hit four times, including two home runs.

With nine home runs in 38 games, Vargas is projected to finish the 2026 season with approximately 38 home runs, more than double his previous personal record of 16 HR set in 2025.

His global statistics for the season so far reflect a remarkable transformation: .228 batting average, .369 OBP, .471 slugging, and .840 OPS, with 18 RBIs and five stolen bases.

Vargas’s rise to power has been rapid. As of May 5, he was already projected to hit 33 home runs for the entire season, double his previous record, and in just four days added two more to that projection.

The power surge is not surprising for those who have followed his journey. In May 2025, Vargas was named Player of the Week in the American League after hitting .417 with four home runs and nine RBIs in seven days, a week that foreshadowed what would come in 2026.

In that same month of 2025, Vargas matched his personal best in home runs and also joined the Cuban elite in MLB with a double streak that confirmed his offensive versatility.

Born on November 17, 1999, in Havana, Vargas left Cuba at the age of 16 with his father Lázaro Vargas, a legend of Cuban baseball. He signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2016 and made his MLB debut on August 3, 2022, hitting 2-4 with two RBIs in his first game.

Romero accurately summed up the moment the player is experiencing: "Now Vargas is projected to finish with 38 HR by 2026," a figure that would make him one of the most prominent power hitters in the American League this season.
