The Republican congressman Carlos A. Giménez issued a strong warning to the Chavista leader Diosdado Cabello Rondón, following the confirmation of the deportation of Alex Saab to the United States.
"Diosdado, you are next," expressed Giménez.
The Cuban-American politician posted two messages on X. In the first one, he wrote: "Thanks to President Trump and Secretary Rubio, the interim dictator Delcy Rodríguez has handed over the criminal narco-terrorist Alex Saab to face justice in the United States. Diosdado Cabello must be next!"
Minutes later, the legislator published a second message that was even more direct: "Diosdado, you are next!", alongside the official reward poster from the Department of State and the DEA against Cabello Rondón.
That poster offers up to 25 million dollars for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of Cabello, who is accused of conspiracy to commit narco-terrorism, conspiracy to import cocaine, and conspiracy to use and carry machine guns and destructive devices in connection with a drug offense.
According to the outlet UHN Plus, Giménez also warned: "Since Delcy sends us Alex Saab, Diosdado is next. Then we'll go after her. It's only a matter of time," thereby including the interim Venezuelan president Delcy Rodríguez among the next targets of American pressure.
The reward for Cabello was originally announced in March 2020 at $10 million and raised to $25 million in January 2025, when the Southern District of New York formally charged him with coordinating transportation of cocaine shipments to the United States with the FARC.
The deportation of Saab was confirmed on Saturday night, when an aircraft Gulfstream registered in the United States landed around 9:00 PM at the Opa-locka executive airport in Miami-Dade, with Saab escorted by DEA federal agents.
It was Rodríguez who authorized the delivery, as part of the negotiations between Washington and the interim government of Caracas that emerged after the capture of Nicolás Maduro on January 3.
The Venezuelan SAIME confirmed the deportation through a statement, indicating that Saab "is involved in the commission of various crimes in the United States of America."
This is the second time that Saab has faced U.S. justice. In December 2023, then-President Joe Biden included him in a prisoner exchange with Venezuela—without having been convicted—in exchange for the release of 10 American citizens, a decision that was widely criticized by Republican lawmakers.
On April 11, Giménez had already publicly demanded that Rodríguez hand over Cabello to the United States, publishing the same reward poster of 25 million dollars.
The congresswoman María Elvira Salazar also reacted this Sunday to Saab's deportation with a statement that sums up the political moment: "The era of impunity for drug dictator, their frontmen, and their accomplices is crumbling in the Americas."
