The Cuban writer Zoé Valdés will present her book “Dignas Cubanas” this afternoon at the cultural space Sentir Cubano in Little Havana, Miami, at six in the evening.

The author herself announced the presentation of her book in a video for CiberCuba, recorded at the airport while traveling to south Florida. It arrives on a date full of symbolism: the 20th of May, the anniversary of Cuba's independence.

"Dignas Cubanas" is the second volume of a series that began with "Hijas de Cuba," dedicated to highlighting the women who have fought for the freedom of the island throughout history, with a special emphasis on Cuban mothers.

Valdés described the project honestly regarding its nature: "It is painful to write this book. It is not a book that has literary pretensions; it is just a compilation."

The author also announced that she is working on a third volume titled "Glories of Cuba," which, in her words, "will be a blend of both with many more mothers, women, and grandmothers who sacrificed for the freedom of Cuba."

In the same video, Valdés announced that her book "Cuba y ahora la libertad" arrived in bookstores yesterday, published in Spain by Sekotia, with the full title "Cuba, and now the freedom. Proposals for a radical change in a Cuba that can no longer wait."

The central message of that work is powerful: "Without freedom, there will be no country. Without freedom, there will be no possible reconstruction."
