Adys Lastres Morera, sister of the executive president of GAESA, has been transferred to the South Louisiana ICE Processing Center in Basile, Louisiana, as confirmed by the official detainee locator of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The transfer took place days after her arrest in Miami on May 21.
According to journalist Daniel Benítez, the transfer to that center is not coincidental: the South Louisiana ICE Processing Center is known for the strictness of its immigration judges, which in practice makes it more difficult for detainees to obtain immigration relief or avoid deportation.
The official ICE locator shows Adys Lastres Morera in custody at the facility located at 3843 Stagg Avenue, Basile, Louisiana 70515, although the administrative control of the case remains with the ERO office in Krome, Miami.
Adys Lastres Morera was arrested by agents of the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) following a deportation determination issued on May 20 by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, under Section 237(a)(4)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which allows for the removal of permanent residents whose presence poses serious adverse consequences for the foreign policy of the United States.
No criminal charges have been filed against him; the process is strictly migratory.
Adys had entered the United States on January 13, 2023, during the Biden administration, at the request of her son Ernesto Carvajal Lastres, a U.S. citizen.
Since her arrival, she was listed as the manager or registered agent of two real estate companies in Florida: REMAS Investments LLC and Santa Elena Investments LLC, based in Boca Raton.
Her sister, Ania Guillermina Lastres Morera, brigadier general of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), leads GAESA, the military-business conglomerate that controls between 40% and 70% of the Cuban economy and manages up to 20 billion dollars in illicit assets, according to U.S. authorities.
On May 7, Rubio sanctioned GAESA and Ania Guillermina Lastres Morera directly under Executive Order 14404, signed by President Trump on May 1.
The United States set June 5 as the deadline for foreign companies to sever ties with GAESA, and major shipping companies like Hapag-Lloyd and CMA CGM have already suspended operations with Cuba in response to these pressures.
Adys' son, Ernesto Carvajal Lastres, publicly denounced that his mother has been isolated since her arrest.
"I haven't even been able to talk to my mom. She is completely cut off from communication. I don't know if she's okay because they have her isolated," declared journalist Alexis Boentes from Telemundo 51.
Rubio, for his part, was emphatic after the arrest: "There will be no place on this Earth —and certainly not in our country— where foreigners who threaten our national security can live in luxury."
The detention of Adys Lastres Morera is the first direct immigration action against a relative of a high-ranking official in the Cuban military apparatus under the Trump administration, amidst a maximum pressure offensive that escalated steadily during May 2026.
