The Cuban singer La Diosa (Dianelys Alfonso Cartaya) shared an emotional video on Instagram celebrating the graduation of her eldest son, Axel, in which she was visibly moved and confessed one of her greatest fears as a mother: not having been able to get him out of Cuba in time.
"I always feared that I wouldn't be able to get him out of Cuba and leave him in such a miserable place where he couldn't pursue a career and have a decent life, where I was scared he would have to go through military service; that terrified me," the artist stated in the nearly 14-minute video.
The singer, who arrived in Miami with her family at the beginning of 2023 through humanitarian parole, described her graduation as the fulfillment of a dream that she once feared was impossible.
"There is no greater emotion than this," she said at the beginning of the video, before breaking down in tears as she remembered Axel as a child: a blond, calm, and well-behaved boy who never caused her any trouble.
Axel, who turned 17 in June 2025, was born in Nice, France, where La Diosa lived after residing in Milan, Italy, which allowed the young man to grow up speaking three languages simultaneously: French, Italian, and Spanish.
Her adaptation to the American educational system was not easy, as she arrived at an older age than her younger sister Rachel and without proficiency in English.
However, La Diosa proudly emphasized that her son overcame all those challenges: "What a great pride it is that Axel has given me such good grades this year and last year as well."
The journey to this moment has been marked by difficult episodes. In August 2022, La Diosa said goodbye to Axel at the airport as he headed to Europe, convinced it was the best for him.
Months later, in November 2022, Axel was mugged at knife point in Havana, where his cell phone and flip-flops were stolen. La Diosa publicly reported the incident and days later announced that the assailant had been captured.
In the video, the artist also dedicated words of recognition to her husband, Rey El Mago, a music producer who took Axel as his own son since he was young.
"When you have children from someone else, you always have to choose a wonderful man, and that man is Rey, who has taken care of everything for Axel since he was little until today," she affirmed.
The Goddess also emotionally remembered her deceased parents, expressing her wish that they could see her grandson's graduation from heaven.
"If my mom were alive, she would be as proud of Axel as I am. My dad, who knew Axel, would be super proud of him too," she said excitedly.
After the ceremony, the family celebrated with a sushi dinner, the graduate's favorite dish.
"I did it, I managed... to save him, as I always say," La Diosa summarized, with a phrase that encapsulates years of sacrifice, distance, and hope.
