The Cuban-American actor Andy García described the Cuban regime's viewpoint as "arrogant and narcissistic" during an interview on the Enrique Santos Morning Show, a nationally syndicated Hispanic radio program that airs on TÚ 94.9 FM in Miami.
In the excerpt shared on Instagram, García described the logic of Castroism as a stance of intellectual superiority that looks down on the rest of the world: "It's that you don't have the intelligence to understand who we are. It's such an arrogant and narcissistic point of view."
The actor pointed out that this attitude has been the foundation of decades of manipulation: "They have deceived not only the Cuban people but the world for many years. And one realizes, if you travel over the years and talk about Cuba, how the world and people around the world have swallowed the pills of Castro's propaganda."
Andy made a direct reference to Fidel Castro - "the one who started this entire tragedy" - as the source of the ideological arrogance that, according to him, the regime has maintained to this day.
The statements made on Friday come just 10 days after García became emotional to the point of tears at the Cannes Festival, where he presented his film "Diamond" out of competition.
There, he declared that he has "a hole in his heart" for Cuba and requested international intervention to free the Cuban people, stating that 90% of Cubans would ask other countries to "come and invade our country and get rid of these people."
García's public activism in 2026 also includes the song "Que se vayan," released on April 3 alongside Cuban singer San Miguel Pérez, in which the actor lent his voice and his pen to the cause of Cuba's freedom.
García was born in Havana in 1956 and exiled to Miami five years later. His denunciation of the regime has been constant over the decades: in 2021 he supported the protests of July 11 and backed the Civic March of November 15, and in 2022 he publicly proclaimed "Long live a Free Cuba!".
The full interview is available on Enrique Santos' YouTube channel, where García elaborated on his views regarding the dictatorship and the Cuban exile.
