The Cuban-American actor Andy García described the viewpoint of the Cuban regime as "arrogant and narcissistic" during an interview on the Enrique Santos Morning Show, a nationally syndicated Hispanic radio program broadcast on TÚ 94.9 FM, in Miami.
In the segment shared on Instagram, García described the logic of Castroism as a stance of intellectual superiority that looks down on the rest of the world: "It's that you don't have the intelligence to understand who we are. It's such an arrogant and narcissistic viewpoint."
The actor noted that this attitude has been the foundation of decades of manipulation: "They have deceived not only the Cuban people but the world for many years. And one realizes, when traveling over the years and talking about Cuba, how the world and people around the globe have swallowed the pills of Castro's propaganda."
Andy directly referenced Fidel Castro—“the one who started all this tragedy”—as the source of the ideological arrogance that, according to him, the regime has maintained to this day.
The statements on Friday come just 10 days after García was moved to tears at the Cannes Film Festival, where he presented his film "Diamond," out of competition.
There, he stated that he has "a hole in his heart" for Cuba and called for international intervention to free the Cuban people, asserting that 90% of Cubans would ask other countries to "come and invade our country and get rid of these people."
The public activism of García in 2026 also includes the song "Que se vayan," released on April 3rd alongside Cuban singer San Miguel Pérez, where the actor lent his voice and his pen in support of Cuba's freedom.
García was born in Havana in 1956 and exiled to Miami five years later. His denunciation of the regime has been constant over the decades: in 2021, he supported the protests of 11J and endorsed the Civic March of 15N, and in 2022 he publicly declared “Long live a Free Cuba!".
The full interview is available on Enrique Santos' YouTube channel, where García elaborated on his views regarding the dictatorship and the Cuban exile.
