The Cuban Davisleydi Velazco triumphed this Sunday at the International Athletics Meeting of Forbach in France, with a jump of 14.83 meters that crowned her champion in the women's triple jump event.
Velazco, who left the federation of the island, emigrated to the United States and currently resides in Puerto Rico, practically secured victory from her first attempt, a record that none of her competitors managed to surpass during the rest of the contest.
The French athlete Ilionis Guillaume finished second with a throw of 14.09 meters, while the German Kira Wittmann completed the podium with a distance of 13.89 meters, according to the website Cuba rumbo a Los Ángeles 2028.
The result confirms the excellent form that the athlete is experiencing in the 2026 season. Just a few days prior, Velazco had set a new personal best of 14.85 meters in a competition held in Puerto Rico, surpassing her previous best of 14.72 meters achieved in August 2025 at the Memorial Van Damme in Brussels.
Esa marca de 14.85 m la sitúa tercera en la lista mundial de la temporada y sexta en el ranking mundial femenino de triple salto según World Athletics.
The Cuban athlete has maintained a steady upward trajectory in performance, placing her among the most consistent triple jumpers on the international circuit this year.
In the men's triple jump event, the Cuban Christian Nápoles also competed, who finished seventh with a jump of 15.90 meters, below his best season mark of 2026, which is 16.08 meters.
On the other hand, the Cuban middle-distance runner Daily Cooper was among those registered to compete in the 800 meters, but she ultimately did not start as she continued to recover from a severe flu she had suffered the previous weekend.
Cooper is expected to return to competitive activity in the upcoming events of his European tour.
Velazco, born in Cuba on September 4, 1999, boasts a record that includes the NACAC U-23 title, the Pan American U-20 championship, and a bronze medal at the 2018 U-20 World Cup. She also participated in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and the 2022 World Athletics Championships.
The victory in Forbach represents another indication of Velazco's athletic growth in a season that could turn out to be the best of his competitive career.
